Hiking from Mt. Hoven

Together with Hotel Alexandra, Hotel Loenfjord and Loen Active, Loen Skylift and Hoven Restaurant have achieved certification as Eco Lighthouses.

With this, we commit ourselves to work even more targeted to improve environmental performance in the areas of working environment, waste management, energy use, purchasing, and transport. This gives us good conditions for helping to achieve several of the UN's sustainable development goals.

The process started in December 2021 as a joint project for all the companies, and the last company was certified at the beginning of November 2022. The Enøk-senteret in Ørsta has been an adviser until certification is complete. Innovation Norway has contributed funds to the certification process.

What is an Eco Lighthouse?

The Eco-Lighthouse system is operated by the Eco-Lighthouse Foundation and is Norway's most widely used certificate for businesses that want to document their environmental efforts and demonstrate social responsibility. Over 9,000 businesses are certified as Eco-Lighthouses - from small and medium-sized individual businesses to large groups and municipalities.

The Eco-Lighthouse certification is recognized by the authorities for public procurement and approved as environmental documentation in tenders. The Eco-Lighthouse system is the first national system in Europe to be recognized by the EU.

A number of criteria must be met for the businesses within the areas mentioned above, and everything must be documented. Every year the companies must report on target achievement, and one must be re-certified every three years to retain the certification.

What will this mean for the companies?

The certification as an Eco-Lighthouse should help strengthen competitiveness and secure jobs, contribute to a green transition, and raise the quality of what we offer.

The aim of the certification is to make the companies in the group even more sustainable in areas such as the working environment, waste management, energy use, purchasing, and transport. This work will continue systematically and long-term, with measures that will improve our contribution to the environment, and thus contribute to a green and sustainable future.
